Mrs. Felton's Class Policies
1. Keep hands, feet and objects to yourself at all times. 2. Work hard during work time. 3. Respect and cooperate with everyone. 4. Follow directions immediately. 5. Actively participate.
Our school follows the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports program (PBIS). You may read more about it at www.PBIS.org. We love to "catch" students demonstrating one of the SHELL attributes: Safe, Honorable, Effective, Logical, Life Long Learner. They will bring home one of these sheets that gives details of how they were exemplifying one of these attributes. When they do, sign and return it and then give them lots of extra praise! Their positive behavior will be recognized at our school. Ultimately we promote personal responsibility at our school and will be praising students when we see them doing this.
In my class, I use a clip chart system that acknowledges and awards positive behavior as well. Students all start the day on "Ready to Learn" and may move up all the way to "Outstanding" day. They will receive a warning for behavior that violates our class rules and further inappropriate behavior will cause them to move their clip down. If your student should receive a "Making better choices" slip, please sign and return it. I trust these will be infrequent or not at all, for I am looking forward to a great year with a lot of learning in our classroom!
Homework should not exceed one hour and 10 minutes each night. Ensure that your child is reading 20 minutes each night and summarizing what they read in a few sentences. Students will be bringing home spelling words to study for tests on Fridays. You can help them by calling out the words and having them write them down. Have them practice and focus on those they miss. In addition, we are working on math facts in class. You can help them learn these by using flashcards to practice multiplication facts. Continue to check the weekly newsletter posted on my webpage for tips on helping your child with their homework and other class/school news.
In the unfortunate event your student is absent, we have a special folder that will be sent home when they return containing missed work. Please have them return the finished homework in that same folder so I will know it is make-up work. They have two extra days to finish these assignments and turn them in. Example: Student is absent on Monday, they return on Tuesday and receive assignments. Work is due on Thursday. The grade goes down by 10% each day it is late with a maximum of 5 days late. Please keep me informed of any circumstances that might prevent them from getting their work finished. I truly want to keep communication open with you this year! |
